The Bus Uncle

a). How many viewers are estimated to have watched the Youtube video?
From the Wikipedia's data ,this clip attracting viewers from all over the world, receiving 1.7 million hits in the first 3 weeks of that month.

b).How would you rate the video?
Bus Uncle is obviously not a video produced by high technology. It's just a clip shot by a 21-year-old accountant and part-time psychology student named Jon Fong Wing Han's camera phone. So I think the aesthetic values are not so good.Anyway, this shot video is certainly humorous and entertaining.what's more, the funny and real argument between the old man nicknamed the Bus uncle and the young passenger raised people to think about the social problem in Hong Kong. The impressive phrases You have pressure!I have pressure! It's not settled! suddenly became popular around Hong Kong. They are are now frequently used, mimicked, and parodied in Hong Kong, particularly by teenagers.
Why are these phrases so popular? Lee Sing, director of the Hong Kong Mood Disorders Centre warned that Hong Kong's high-stress working environments are spawning a city-full of "Bus Uncles".On the other hand, Ho Kwok Leung, an applied social science lecturer, held that attention surrounding the video reflected the boring lives of Hong Kong people.Furthermore, the incident highlighted the apathy of the common Hong Kong people.

c).Do you think deserved the attention that it received from the internet community?
Of course, the clip deserves the attention from the internet community. It's a window for people to see the problem that  we have to face everyday. The clip costs less materials, but it makes big effects on popular culture.

Groups GOOD!'s Arguements

Argument :easy to use and learn
Wikis are instantaneous. So there is no need to wait for a publisher to create a new edition or update information.People located in different parts of the world can work on the same document. The wiki software keeps track of every edit made and it's a simple process to revert back to a previous version of an article widens access to the power of web publishing to non-technical users. The wiki has no predetermined structure - consequently. It is a flexible tool which can be used for a wide range of applications there are a wide range of open source software wiki's to choose from so licensing costs shouldn't be a barrier to installing an institutional wiki.

Criticize: The information may not accurate.
Support:  Just recently the National Institute of Health launched a new initiative to encourage their scientists to edit or start new Wikipedia entries on their area of expertise to ensure that the correct information on health issues is cited. “Wikipedia articles (there are more than 2.9 million of them in English) can be initiated and edited by anyone who can access the website. Quality is informally monitored by fellow users, who can make corrections and change the text freely. All information that is posted is supposed to include citations so a reader can check the primary sources of the data,”
Washington Post article stated.

suggestion: check the primary sources which Wikipedia provided.

Some Comments about Moden Times

Wiki's link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Times_%28film%29

a).What are the benefits of the new technologies (industrial machinery, feeding machine, closed circuit cameras) shown in “Modern Times”? Who gains from these technologies?

First of all,I think that new technologies in the industialized time is undoubtedly important for any classes in our society.Beneath these new inventions, labols can produce products faster by industrial  machines than hands. The faster they pruduced, the better living conditions coming, and the higher effeciency means higher benefit for factories. Ultimately, the factory owers gained the biggist benefits.
what's more, sometimes Machines can help people or instead of people to finish something that is hard for humans to finish.

b).What is the effect of these technologies on the main character’s life/mood/body?

Even though these new technologies has made our life with higher effiency than before. But for the people in that period like the main character in this film is not so good. The new technology means new way to produce, this way makes the labols in the factories always repeat the same thing.Living in such a insipid life, people's mood is obviously sad. However, desipte this weakness new technologies lead us come to a new time-Modern times.Maybe the suffered labors in that time is a necessary immolation.

c).What effects does using computers and the internet have on your life/mood/body?

There is always an arguement about the effects of computer and internet.someone thought that they are very useful for our life. With e-mail,msn,facebook,etc.we conmunicate with each other easier. With internet, informations and knowledges could circulate  in time.If you want to learn something you could just search the informations you need from the digtal libraries on line or encyclopedias on line.In modern times, we can shoping without going anywhere, show ourselves' beauty and talent through youtube to become popular in the world.Beneath internet ,my life become easier.

Wikipedia vs Proprietary encyclopaedia

I would like to choose the Wikipedia to be the only one encyclopaedia.Despite the the criticisms dogged by the vandals and questions about its accuracy,Wikipedia has became more and more popular in nowadays.

Wikipedia as a community-edited online encyclopedia, has thousands of volenteers who have created millions of entries in many languages.Whit this creative way, this site can provide the extremely fast and comprehensive coverage for it's readers. There is a popular arguement in the modern times - Your knowledge that you learned two years ago is invalid. so we need more fresh information and knowledge to compete with others. Becouse of the information from Wikipedia is immediately, people could get the most fashionable informations around the world, and also have a chance to see the different sides of one thing.

"Wikipedia is a freely licensed encyclopaedia. This means that  anyone could copy it,redistrbute it.Commercially or noncommercially."Jimmy Walse the founder and chairman of the Wikipedia Foundation said that in a interview with Dale Hioberg the senior president and editor chief of Encyclopedia Britannica Inc.With this wonderful way people can communicate wiyh each other for free charge.I think it enhances the circulation of knowledge.

Jimmy Walse also said that "openness"is going to be neceseery in order to reach the highest levels of quality.Britannica has long been a standard bearer, and they have done a fine jod within their model. But it si time to work in a different model, with different techniques made possible by new technologies but the same goals,to reach ever higher standards. What's more, a recent study in the journal Nature, however, found few differencies in accuracy between science entries inWikipedia and the venerable Encyclopaedia Britannica.

In my opinion, althougth the Prorietary encyclopaedias have lots of scholars and experts around the world who serve as the contributors and advisers for them,it seens that their informations are more reliable than Wikipedia. On the other hand,Wikipedia is use a different models to gather information and knowledge. These two encyclopaedia models are sharing the same goals. With high technology and new concept,Wikipedia are puting more emphasis on quality instead of quantity.
